So, I'm on my hunter and they're looking for like 4 more DPS for 25 man Naxx, right? And I say, after every time he posts that he's looking for DPS, that I'll go and they never answer, slowly the number they need are going down and I'm not being invited and I'm like "What the heck dude, I'll go dps for you guy, I know all the fights" And he tells me my gear sucks...

Wtf? Did he seriously waste the time to go on the armory to take a look at my gear? 2.5k dps isn't bad, is it? And even if it is, does 1 ranged dps matter? Escpecially if it's someone who knows all the fights? I've tanked. healed, melee dpsed and ranged dpsed every fight in that instance on my druid, and in worst gear than my druid had my hunter can do more dps! I don't get it, why the heck shouldn't skill count more than gear? Just cause Graim is my dps alt doesn't mean he should have to do heroics for 4 weeks every single day to get the gear he needs to do a freakin naxx run! Should it?

I've led a lot of Naxx 25 pugs, and I armoried every single person who wanted an invite, and only took people of a certain gear level. Our runs were always successful full clears. What does that mean? Nothing, except that I've probably inadvertently insulted many people like you. For that, I'm sorry, but I didn't see a choice.

The bottom line is: there is NO WAY to tell the SKILL of a pugger when forming a raid.

2.5k dps is not bad, and I'm sure you are a very skilled player. But there's no way for the raid leader to know that (everyone says they are good, even if they aren't). The only thing he can check ahead of time is their armory. The only thing that doesn't lie is their gear and achievements. So that's what we go on, because we hope to reduce our chances of assembling a failpug. It sucks ass that people in your situation end up being a casualty of this. But right now there's not much of an alternative. That's Blizzard's failure.

I didn't just take people who were well geared, though. What I really looked for is: were they gemmed and enchanted? Did they run some heroics and get some rep, or did they just ding 80 and expect to get carried through Naxx 25 in their level 75 blues? Did they bother to craft some stuff? Someone in unenchanted Valorous gear mixed with one or two greens was LESS likely to get an invite to my raid than the guy in all blues and crafted epics that enchanted and gemmed his gear appropriately, and bothered to spend some money and do some heroics rather than leech off of other people and skip heroics and Naxx 10 straight to Naxx 25.

IMO, no matter how easy Naxx 25 is, no one should be skipping the regular and heroic dungeons and jumping right to Naxx 25 upon dinging 80. Sorry. You ask "should it", and I respond with "yeah, it should." And "heroics every day for 4 weeks" is a gross exaggeration. With crafted gear and smart selection of heroics and reps to focus on, I got my resto druid Naxx 25-ready in ONE. DAY. after hitting 80. It's very doable.

In fact, here's a hunter gear guide for people who just dinged 80.

I'll even do the rest of the work for you:

1) JCs can craft a neck and ring for you.
2) LWs can craft a cape, boots, and the giantmaim pants
3) You'll have two decent trinkets from just questing
4) Engineers can craft you a Nesingwary 4000 gun
5) Focus on Ebon Blade rep to get revered for a weapon (stat stick) and helm enchant
6) Leather gloves from CoS quest
7) Run Normal Occulus, CoS, and HoL for drops and rep.

Bam. Maybe a few hours of instance runs and some gold, and you'll get a Naxx 25 invite in no time.

On the other hand, there are some total jerks out there who take the whole armorying thing too far, and I can't stand those people. But it's really all just subjective.

Also, the only 80 hunter named Graim I could find in the armory:

Maybe that's not you.

With a green weapon from a level 77 quest.

Along with 2 other greens and a stam gem in the belt. Most of the blues aren't enchanted.

I certainly wouldn't invite this person to a Naxx 25 run. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that's not you, and you have actually put a lot more effort into your Graim.

2.5k dps isn't bad, but it isn't great either. At this stage of the game, I've seen pug dps all being over (in some cases way over) 3k dps. The games built around gear AND skill -there's two parts to the formula and as an RL they can confirm 50% of it with the armory.

If you are doing 2.5k dps in a mix of greens and blues, you'll blow RL's minds and you won't have any problem in getting into raids once your gear improves. Besides, come 3.2, this will be a whole lot easier for you, THEN your skill will be the differentiating factor.

Yeah, and a lot of the stuff that would keep a raid leader from even talking to you is easily replaced in some heroics. Like for the gun, run CoS for Pierce's Pistol or even better, UK for the Drake-Mounted Crossbows. Any greens serve as a red flag to a raid leader and one without patience will turn you down with out a second thought.

All I am going to say is this:

Instance only matter when you invite people who don't need the gear. am i right? I mean it's not like people have an interest in improving their character. Naxx 10/25 were put there to feed badges to people who DO NOT NEED THEM. That is, atleast based on this thread, a fact. pug leaders like those get me aggitated. It is why I do not pug, why if I do have to pick up an outsider I make sure that I AM the lead. I give people a chance to prove skill>gear. Doesn't mean I won't boot you. It means you have a chance to not be a bad. Though I agree, I do have some limits.. all I ask is that they not be green quest geared.. this is NOT difficult to do.

My raids have cleared naxx, 3D os 10/25, ulduar 25....and coming soon TotC 10man

Hmm, two valid point of views. I had the same problem with my Lock when he first hit 80. I would concider myself a very skilled player (have every class 70+) but i have a casual's playing hours (usually never more than 2 hours in a row to play). So when my Lock hit 80 he was in heirloom gear, mostly instance blues, and some questing greens.

Just finished WG, someone was looking for more dps for 25 man VoA, i wispered and got back a similir response as you "sorry, your gear is Lawl." Confident in my skill i responded "If my dps is not in the top 5, i'll give you 1k gold." Got an invite, sadly i was the top dps w/ 3.5kdps.

The rest of the dps was in nax25/ulduar gear, they all passed the Amory test. Yet it ended up being a fail PuG because Skill>Gear, and the majority of the dps was lacking in skill.

My favorite quote was from one of the healers. "WOW! You DPSers fail. The only decent one is a Lock in Blues/Greens L2P nubs." Although i hate L33t speak, it made me laugh.

Moral of the story is, if you are confident in your skill, put your money where your mouth is; it may get you the invite.
