PostSubject: Hero Classes - Could Blizz Have Done It Better?   7/16/2009, 10:08 am

Wasn't the idea of a "Hero Class" just a super-epic version of a regular unit in Warcraft?

Instead of fighting with creating a new class and balancing it into the pre-existing 9 (now 10) archetypes, why didn't they just create something like a paragon path? It would be like a 4th tree of talents that is only accessible after level 55 and only for the class that it was pertinent, i.e. Paladins could become DKs after level 55. It would fit with the idea of RP, and you could more easily expand it to other classes. Your original character becomes the hero class.

Any ideas on why this wouldn't have worked, or why they didn't go this way?

The problem is that a true hero class should be better than all the others. It should be stronger and faster, have better abilities and so forth. Unfortunately, this causes everyone to decry it as Overpowered and thus it gets nerfed. While I love playing my Death Knight, if Blizzard had wanted to keep the game fair and balanced, they should not have introduced DKs or at the very least, not called them Hero Classes. Maybe just Expert Classes or something.

I kinda thought when vanilla came out that the players *were* the hero class. I mean we smoke the NPCs by comparison. I like the "Expert" class idea. Maybe with the next expansion, instead of piling on more talents for your 90 (100?) you could have some new flavor to play with. A 4th tree only accessible after 80.
